Veteran Tickets Foundation’s website, Vettix.org, is available for active duty and veterans to obtain free tickets or discounts on activities throughout the nation. This great group started in Arizona a few years ago by veterans.
After you sign up by submitting a DD214, you only have to pay the postage for many venues. This includes baseball tickets — many Cactus League games this year were included — and plays at such places as Gammage auditorium. There are many small theaters that offer tickets including in Wickenburg and Tucson. NASCAR and the Phoenix Open were just some of the many special events that helped veterans save money.
Tickets given away to date: 344,309. They have given tickets away in all 50 states. Arizona, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Washington, D.C. received among the most donations. Distribution has included veterans, 13 percent; active military, 21 percent; military organizations, 2 percent and military bases, 64 percent.
They are working to have more veterans sign up online. In 2010, the organization ran at 94.5 percent, which means that 94.5 cents of every dollar went back out the door to their verified veterans. For 2011, they are in the 98-99 percent range. They have been approved for the Combined Federal Campaign charity list. They are waiting to hear back about their Arizona State Combined Campaign charity list.
